Montessori Children’s House Wānaka is a charitable trust and as such is a not for profit organisation. The centre is run solely for the benefit of the community. Our first location established in April 1998 was licensed for 23 children on Warren Street in a converted bach. Five years later as a result of high demand for places and through grants from Central Lakes Trust, Community Trust of Otago and QLDC alongside countless hours of fundraising, we opened our purpose built facility on Kings Drive in June 2003. Our present license allows us to take up to 56 tamariki spanning 2 classrooms, in any one session. Our staff ratios comply with or are better than Ministry of Education regulations.
Curriculum
We have a strong foundation in Dr Maria Montessori’s philosophy and, through our ‘prepared environment’, we provide unique learning programmes that incorporate all aspects of traditional Montessori methods while meeting the strands and learning outcomes of the Early Childhood Curriculum Document Te Whāriki. The centre is a MANZ (Montessori Aotearoa of New Zealand) Member.
